The Association of Russian
Communication Agencies published the Russian advertising market statistics in
2007 year. MediaBusiness compared it with the All-Ukrainian Advertising Coalition’s data. The analysis that in Russia,
the advertising investment per head of population is actually 2 times more than
in Ukraine.
Central European Media
Enterprises Ltd. (CME)
announced financial results for its fiscal 2007 year. According to the
company’s report, that is accessible for MediaBusiness, “Studio 1+1” net revenue for 2007 year amounted to $125 323 million,
which is by $30 million more than in 2006 year. Meanwhile, “Studio 1+1” EBITDA as
compared to the previous year decreased from $29.9 million to $27 million.

title fight between Volodymyr Klitschko and Sultan Ibragimov was broadcasted live on
Inter TV channel from 4:00 to 6:30 AM on Sunday,
February 24. It broke all records of night broadcasts in 2006-2007 years. The
fight’s rating was 9.46% (among TV viewers aged 18 years and over, the TV
measurement panel 50,000+), and the audience share reached 84.62%. Despite the timing of the
broadcast, this fight was one of the most popular Klitshcko’s performances among the Ukrainian TV viewers. The only
highest rating – 10.4% – had the fight between Volodymyr Klitschko vs DaVarryl
Willamson in April 2005, which was broadcasted by Studio 1+1 TV channel from 11:00 PM to 01:00 AM.

Central European Media Enterprises Ltd. today
announced that it has entered into agreements with its partners in Studio 1+1 to acquire all minority
interests in the Studio 1+1 Group of companies. Upon completion of this
transaction, CME will own 90% of Studio 1+1 and will have a right to acquire
the remaining 10%. Currently CME holds 60% of Studio 1+1.CME expects to fund
the transaction from cash on hand and its current credit facilities. The
transaction is expected to close by the end of the second quarter of 2008
following the receipt of certain regulatory approvals.
This March, a new cable satellite TV
channel TVI starts broadcasting. Mykola
Knyazhyts’kyi, the director general of TVI, told MediaBusiness about details.
According to him, the TV channel is going to be notable for film premieres
broadcasts and its own production series. Vitaliy
Portnikov took a position of the TVI’s analytical news anchor.
The Independent Association of Broadcasters
of Ukraine
(NAM)
and the Industrial Television Committee (ITK) adopted a decision of the II
International Forum “Digital Broadcasting in Ukraine”
organization. The Forum is to take place on 19 September 2008.

In December
2007, the Ukrainian TV channels’ total expenditures connected with outdoor advertising
(adjusted for all possible discounts and the duration of the real advertising
campaigns) amounted to a little over UAH 1.5 million. Meanwhile, compared year-on-year,
the TV companies’ total expenditures on outdoor advertising grew approximately
4,6 times as far as in December 2006 the Ukrainian TV companies spent on outdoor
ads a little over UAH 300, 000.
Amedia Ukraina company, shooting
“Kolyshnia” (Ex) series on the order of Novyi Kanal TV channel, announced about
the beginning of new casting sessions. The TV channel’s executive group took a decision to shoot some
additional episodes of the popular TV series, which had 60 episodes according
to original plan.
The Маххimum Advertising sales house stopped selling advertising space at the
KRT (Kyїvska Rus Telebachennia) TV channel. A managing partner of the Maxximum
group of companies Viktoria Semenenko told MediaBusiness about details.
The Sfera TV (Sphere TV) sales
house, selling advertising opportunities of “24” and TRC Ukraina TV
channels, and the MediaKon company,
which presents the RTV International, Nashe
Kino (Our Cinema) and Detskiy
Mir/Teleklub (Children’s Paradise/TV Club) cable TV channels in the
territory of Ukraine, have signed an exclusive agreement on RTVi and Nashe Kino (Our Cinema) TV channels’ advertising time sales in 2008
year. Mykolay Typusyak, the director
general of MediaKon, told MediaBusiness about details.
The format of the new TV channel will
be “documentary action”. This is mentioned in the official statement of the TV
company, which is accessible for MediaBusiness. Signaling will be realized
through the satellite and the cable network. More than $5 million are going to
be invested in the launch of the TV channel.
On 26 December 2007, the National
Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine adopted a resolution on
issuing to TRC Ukraina a license for the Futbol TV channel satellite
broadcasting. Ihor Kurus, First Deputy Chairman of the National Council on
Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine, announced the Council’s
resolution at the briefing meeting that took place in Kyїv.
The Industrial Television Committee
(ITK) adopted a resolution for the Digital Committee creation. The duties of
the new Committee will include developing working relationships with those
government authorities that bear responsibility for the transition of the
Ukrainian TV to the digital format. Kateryna Kotenko, Chief Executive Officer
of the Industrial Television Committee, told MediaBusiness about the ITK’s resolutions
concerning the Digital Committee creation.
The “5 kanal” TV channel
rounded off its negotiations with sales houses and came to a decision of
selling its advertising space autonomously in 2008 year. The fact was reported
by the director general of “5 kanal” Ivan Adamchuk, writes Telekritika (Ukraine).
