Championship 2008 group stage secured Pershy Natsionalny [First
National] TV channel a solid growth of its figures. The average audience share
for these broadcasts (aired from 7 to 18 June) reached 10.15%, the rating was

Outdoor advertising operators believe that the
possible prohibition on advertising near roads will kill their business. They can
be forced to take down about 70% outdoor advertising frameworks and, as a
result, to loose 72% of earnings (about
$1.2 bn). 350 companies can go bankrupt. The marketers ask deputies and the
President not to pass the bill or, at least, to soften it. The second reading
of the bill is scheduled on June 5.

company launches Poverkhnost+, a paid
satellite TV service. The subscription fee for the package, which includes 60
channels at the moment, is about UAH 100 ($19.80). The sum of investment in the
project constitutes “several tens of thousands of US dollars”.

“The National Council shall not
change its opinion on the language matter”, told Vitaly Shevchenko, a Head of
the National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine, in
his interview to MediaBusiness. So, the National
Council is going to insist further on increasing a part of the Ukrainian-language
broadcasts from 75% to 85%. A few months rebellion of the TV industry, which doesn’t
want to loose Russian-language viewers and advertisers, have had no result for
the time being. Maybe, they have been bringing
forward wrong arguments?

one of the leading companies of Ukrainian indoor-video market, announced its
intention to fight against dishonest partners with a help of
“anti-advertising”. On 14 April, the company launched an indoor video clip
telling about OOO MyPack’s defaulted
payment. The clip is broadcasted in all-Ukrainian indoor video network
(supermarkets, specialized shops, trade malls, restaurants etc.). In such a
manner PressCom is trying to force its clients to fulfill their
obligations.

On 5 April, Ukrainian Media Holding publishing house released the first issue
of Misto+ (City+) free advertising
paper in Kryvy Rih. Weekly paper Udacha (Luck),
also by UMH, was launched here
earlier. So for the moment , a total declared weekly circulation of UMH’s free publications in Kryvy Rih
amounts to 145,000 copies. Financial terms of the investment were not disclosed.

Media Holding added the third regional classified advertiser to
its portfolio. Vostochny Kuryer (Eastern
Courier) advertising paper was acquired by UMH
from its Luhansk partner, OOO Media Vostok
(Media East). The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. According to information
obtained by MediaBusiness, UMH is
going to invest UAH 15 million for development of Vostochny Kuryer (Eastern Courier) and its other classified advertisers.

Chistaya
Pribyl (Net Profit) business weekly magazine (by U.A. Inter Mediа Group)
so far is going to be distributed via subscription only. This was reported to
MediaBusiness by Andriy Zaytsev, the
editor-in-chief of the magazine. The first issue of Chistaya Pribyl (Net Profit) was published in the middle of March. The
magazine’s price per one issue amounts to UAH 20 (almost $4). Perhaps in the
future Chistaya Pribyl (Net Profit) will
be distributed by retail channels also. At this stage, however, it is
economically inadvisable, the publishers believe.

13 March, STB TV channel and Star Media group of companies announced
concluding a large contract. According to the deal, STB TV channel will purchase from Star Media 33 TV films designed for the STB’s Sunday time slot, Nashe
Novoe Kino (Our New Cinema). A period of the license agreement is to begin
on 1 January
2009 and last for three years. The financial terms
of the deal were not disclosed.

2007 year. MediaBusiness compared it with the All-Ukrainian Advertising Coalition’s data. The analysis that in Russia,

announced financial results for its fiscal 2007 year. According to the
company’s report, that is accessible for MediaBusiness, “Studio 1+1” net revenue for 2007 year amounted to $125 323 million,
which is by $30 million more than in 2006 year. Meanwhile, “Studio 1+1” EBITDA as
compared to the previous year decreased from $29.9 million to $27 million.

The World Superheavyweight Championship
title fight between Volodymyr Klitschko and Sultan Ibragimov was broadcasted live on
Inter TV channel from 4:00 to 6:30 AM on Sunday,
February 24. It broke all records of night broadcasts in 2006-2007 years. The
fight’s rating was 9.46% (among TV viewers aged 18 years and over, the TV
measurement panel 50,000+), and the audience share reached 84.62%. Despite the timing of the
broadcast, this fight was one of the most popular Klitshcko’s performances among the Ukrainian TV viewers. The only
highest rating – 10.4% – had the fight between Volodymyr Klitschko vs DaVarryl
Willamson in April 2005, which was broadcasted by Studio 1+1 TV channel from 11:00 PM to 01:00 AM.

In September 2008, the publishing
house Hachette Filipacchi Press, which
issues Elle, Maxim and Elle
Deluxe magazines in Ukraine, intends to launch the local
version of the French glossy magazine for women Marie Claire. Serhiy
Myrosnychenko, the director general of the Hachette Filipacchi Press
publishing house, affirmed the MediaBusiness’ own information. Tetyana Dyachkova took a position of the
magazine’s editor-in-chief. Marketers estimate that Hachette Filipacchi Press has invested in the
project about $1-1,5 million and forecast that the launch of
the Marie Claire’s local version will inspire development of the Ukrainian
market of glossy magazines for women and the luxury market niche.
