In July, the record growth (16% year-on-year) of Ukrainian box office was registered.

According to the Russian magazine Kinobiznes Segodnya (The Cinema Business Today), the Ukrainian box office total revenue for four weekends of July 2008 amounted to $4.280 million, which is $1.163 million (or 16%) more than last July.

The leaders of July, as Kinobiznes Segodnya writes, were Hancock ($1.365 m), Wall-E ($1.224 m), and Hellboy 2: The Golden Army ($1 m).

Earlier some film distributors reported that their box office revenues fell after the Ukraine’s Constitutional Court’s decision of the obligatory Ukrainian translation of foreign films.

At the same time, according to the data by Motion Picture Association (MPA), box office revenues in Ukraine for the first half of 2008 grew by UAH 6.3 m ($1.3 m) or 4%, to UAH 151.5 m ($31.2 m).
